The future of remote learning for Filipino basic education learners has just taken further shape. On August 11, 2021, NTC President Fred Ayala and Executive Vice President Pamela Wu signed a Memorandum of Agreement with 917 Venture President and CEO Vince Yamat and Head of Incubation, Francis Simisim to make EdVenture a trailblazing innovation.
EdVenture is a comprehensive online learning platform providing tutorials to a variety of learners from preschool to junior high school. It also has coaching features for parents and consultation services for homeschooling children with special needs. Professional teachers and topnotch teacher education students make EdVenture an enabling assistive learning system.
Fred Ayala explained, “We are very excited with this partnership with EdVenture because it is truly a win-win-win for the students, parents, and our practicum students/teachers. This is a novel innovation to tackle head-on the learning crisis that we are very much aware of.” He is referring to what the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) declared as the Philippine learning crisis, which NTC has been actively pursuing in a series of public webinars.
Prior to COVID19, it has been articulated in several research reports that Filipino learners were having difficulty coping with the demands of the national curriculum and international benchmarks. The current situation has made the situation worse. And with parents becoming more weary and worried about their children’s education, the need for better adaptive solutions has emerged.
Sarah Cortes, EdVenture Venture Builder and a teacher herself articulated, “Although we are new in the business, we are striving, we are doing our best to keep up with the demand of education. We have experienced lots of problems, but I’m grateful people are very much willing to help. Hindi lang kaming mga teachers, hindi lang mga bata, hindi lang mga parents. There is National Teachers College that is very willing to back us up together with the people from 917.”
Through the partnership, NTC shall provide EdVenture with qualified online learning facilitators and education content developers from its pool of outstanding undergraduate and graduate teacher education students. NTC is one of the key players in Philippine teacher education for over 90 years. More than the gainful employment opportunity, these students will also be afforded alternative credentials through the partnership, especially that apprenticeship models have also shifted to remote and online formats.
The leaders of Globe’s 917 Ventures are hopeful that EdVenture will become part of every Filipino home, here and abroad, soon. In like manner, NTC leaders see this as an opportunity to bring Tanglaw (the term of endearment for NTC) anywhere in the country and beyond.
NTC, a premier institution under a Yuchengco-Ayala educational partnership, ensures that Filipinos will have access to quality education at a reasonable cost.
NTC Partnered with experts in remote learning to ensure the effective delivery of its remote learning. These include: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)-JWEL who works with member organizations to promote excellence and transformation in education to address global opportunities for scalable change in education; Mapua University, one of the pioneers in distance learning, has been continuously improving learning connectivity online even before ECQ; Derrick Latrielle ran learning and development operations for blue-chip technology, telecommunications, and BPO companies operating around the world, especially in South America and Southeast Asia; and, Dr. Edizon Fermin is a member of CHED’s Technical Working Group on Remote Learning.
NTC’s learning continuity plan is clear: stay safe at home and learn meaningfully with assistance from our responsive remote staff, either through calls, texts, social media messages, or emails. The world may have changed drastically, but NTC’s commitment to providing accessible and quality education remains steadfast.
