With the growing population of the Philippines, the need for teachers also increases, although it does not dictate us to choose this path, for it is a calling for those who have a passion for teaching.
Pursuing a career as a teacher is not just simply a job. You have to have a heart full of patience and understanding. It is also a noble profession because it takes courage and passion. A teacher must have the courage to do what is right for the sake of their students and a profound feeling for teaching, even if it is exhausting.
Prof. Alvin Reyes shared, “I want to be a teacher to help students to grow. I believe that students need a powerful support system to grow personally and academically, and being a teacher can provide that. I pursue this because I love the idea of adapting and continuously learning, and this makes teaching exciting and allows me to absorb more information. Lastly, becoming a teacher lets you take part in shaping the next generation.”
Being a teacher carries great responsibility, but it is a fulfilling profession because the students’ achievements are not solely theirs to celebrate. It is a teacher’s joy, too. As always said, without teachers, there would not be doctors, engineers, or lawyers. Teachers are part of the fundamental foundation that cultivates the mind and skills of a child.
If you hear a call, heed to that call because you may not know one day you will be one of those teachers who will develop the mind of our next president. Besides, choosing to be a teacher is not merely teaching students because you have to be their family, friend, and role model.
