What happen when you value education 2048x2048 1

What happens when you value education? It takes you to places you would never imagine, like Dr. Ernestina Cirilo – Tomas, Consultant principal and teacher trainer specializing in Pre-school Education.

According to Dr. Tomas, education is a passage or a way to progress. Hence, by finishing her education at NTC, she made her way out of the long and winding journey of financial struggles. Aside from that, she was able to share her knowledge and wisdom as a teacher and principal for 23 years in Indonesia.

Dr. Tomas came from a humble single-parent household with a strong belief in the value of education. That’s why her mom tried to make both ends meet so she could continue her study. Despite dreaming of becoming a nurse, she ended up taking teacher education, and surprisingly, she achieved more than she expected from herself and earned her Doctorate Degree.

According to her, “I am ecstatic I had my education from National Teachers College, which I love very much because through them I was able to share the knowledge and passion I acquired from NTC for teaching children and other teachers.”

However, before she could even finish her studies at NTC, she also had her fears due to their financial capabilities. She also had siblings studying, and for a single parent like her mom, it was difficult. Dr. Tomas recalled that her mom had to go to their relatives to do laundry to earn some. Sometimes, they also have to pawn their things, but her mom’s hard work and dedication allowed her to finish her studies.

Apart from her mom’s support, she found another support system inside the institution. She found friends who would share their lunch and snacks when she had nothing, and when she had some, she would return their kindness. She also found inspiration in other students.

“During my time in NTC, every time I passed the corridor where the graduate students were having their oral dissertation, it always sparked an inspiration to pursue my master’s degree. I am very proud that I also finished my Master’s Degree Major in Education Supervision at NTC. Then, with my mom’s persistence and my love for NTC, I studied again and earned my Doctorate Degree,” she recalled.

The joy in learning she experienced in NTC drove her to take further studies and uphold one of the core values of NTC, wherein she committed to excellence. Dr. Tomas is also an epitome that the National Teachers College produces students who are leaders and innovators in the academe and industry with skills, responsibility, and commitment, and who can contribute to national and international endeavors.

Indeed, at National Teachers College, students experience the joy of quality education. Thus, earning their loyalty, like Dr. Tomas, whose journey from her undergraduate studies to her post-graduate studies, NTC was part of and always carried the value of education with her wherever she went, a true tanglaw.

NTC, a premier institution under a Yuchengco-Ayala educational partnership, ensures that Filipinos will have access to quality education at a reasonable cost.

NTC Partnered with experts in remote learning to ensure the effective delivery of its remote learning.
