National Teachers College (NTC) continues to strengthen its position as a premier private teacher education institution, marked by significant strides in quality and steadfast commitment to shaping the future of teaching and learning. On April 2, 2025, NTC received the Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education Award (EQUATE), a testament to its commitment to producing top-quality educators.
This prestigious recognition places NTC in an elite group of teacher institutions nationwide that have consistently demonstrated excellence in licensure examination performance and program quality assurance through accreditation.
The transformation of NTC into a leading teacher education institution is defined by three major initiatives. First, the college prioritized investment in leader and faculty development, recognizing them as models of excellence for future teachers. Second, NTC opened opportunities for deserving yet underprivileged students through scholarships and other financial assistance to increase their access to education. Third, NTC continues to build strong alliances with employability partners such as the Department of Education (DepEd) to ensure that pre-service teachers possess the skills needed in the field.
Complementing these initiatives is the dynamic role of NTC’s Graduate Studies program, which provides advanced professional development and leadership training to in-service educators across the country. Through rigorous coursework and applied research-initialization foray into present issues within Philippine education, graduate students become empowered as change agents in their respective learning institutions and communities.
Additionally, the Lunduyan program, an initiative of the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) and NTC aid teachers to succeed, and has contributed significantly to shaping the future of the teaching profession. Through mentoring, coaching, and professional development support, Lunduyan equips teachers to thrive in the classroom in preparation to meet the demands of 21st century education.
Such strategies have translated not only to the excellent performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), but have also ensured remarkable employability outcomes for graduates. NTC proudly reports that 90% of its graduates are employed within 90 days of graduation, compared to the national average of 120 days as reported by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In addition, NTC’s commitment to delivering quality teacher education is further demonstrated through its active membership in the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). Achieving Level IV accreditation is the culmination of almost two decades of unyielding quality teaching and learning initiatives of NTC. The institution responds diligently to recommendations from PACUCOA, making significant investments across critical areas like faculty, curriculum, student life, research, internationalization, and community development.
As one of the best teacher education institutions recognized by CHED, NTC actively collaborates and shares with other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) its best practices. NTC belongs to a network of like-minded government and non-government institutions and associations striving to improve the quality of teacher education, such as the Ayala Foundation and the British Council. In addition, NTC contributes to policy and program development initiatives, with its Vice President for Academic Affairs heading the Technical Panel in Teacher Education. Its faculty members also participate in ad hoc and special committees, conducting research to support higher education policies and programs.
In the fulfillment of its role as a thought leader, NTC acknowledges the broader national context within which the current educational crisis exists. Its leaders, faculty members, and students at the undergraduate and graduate levels engage in a variety of local and international opportunities to keep themselves abreast with the advancements in the education sector, intended to promote a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
The Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education Award is not just a recognition of NTC’s past achievements but also a driving force to continue its pursuit of excellence and its commitment to shaping the future of teacher education in the Philippines.
